About Miami, Florida: Residents of Miami were excited to host Super Bowl 5 in their Orange Bowl which was normally famous for hosting college football and their Miami Dolphins. The city had spent months getting ready to host the event as thousands of visitors would come to downtown Miami to watch the Baltimore Colts take on the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl V.

Ticket Sales / Attendance: There were 79204 people in attendance at the game in and it is estimated that another 45.9 million more excited football fans tuned in from their homes or other football parties around the world while tuning into NBC. Curt Gowdy and Kyle Rote would call the game and the ratings for the game on this network were 39.9.

Team Pre-Season Stats: After a disappointing previous season where they failed to make the playoffs, the Baltimore Colts looked to new head coach Don McCafferty to lead the team back to the Superbowl where they were only 2 years ago. He would count on 10 time Pro Bowl quarterback and future Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas to lead the Colts offence and help them to make it back to the championship.

The Dallas Cowboys were hoping to get back to the championship game for the first time since 1967 and they would once again be led by head coach Tom Landry. A strong defence would be the key for the Cowboys if they wanted to win their first championship.

Team Roster:Key players on the Colts roster included QB Johnny Unitas, LB Mike Curtis, DB Jerry Logan, DL Bubba Smith, LB Tom Goode, DL Fred Miller, and WR Roy Jeffereson.

The notable players for the Cowboys included QB Craig Morton, DB Cornell Green, LB Chuck Howley, DL Bob Lilly, OL John Niland, DB Mel Renfro, RB Duane Thomas, and WR Bob Hayes.

Game Highlights:The championship game was played for the first time in history on artificial turf and it was the first year that the Super Bowl was played in a merged National Football League. Dallas opened the scoring in the game on 2 field goals by kicker Mike Clark to take 6-0 lead. The Colts responded as Unitas threw a 75 yard pass to TE John Mackey to tie the game at 6. Earl Morrall replaced an injured Johnny Unitas late in the first half, but Dallas took a 13-6 lead on a Duane Thomas touchdown entering the half.

The Dallas lead could not hold up as at the interceptions by Baltimore's Rick Volk and Mike Curtis set up a touchdown and game winning kick by Jim O'Brien's with 5 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. This was enough to give the Colts a 16-14 victory and a championship victory.

Game MVP:The Most Valuable Player of the 5th Super Bowl was Dallas linebacker Chuck Howley as he became the first defensive player named as MVP. However, the award was bitter sweet as he also became the first player from the losing team named MVP. He intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble to win the award, but this MVP was not center stage as his team lost to the Colts.

Half Time Show:The halftime show for this year's game featured the Florida A&M Band. Florida A&M is out of Tallahassee and it has divisions of arts and sciences, education, engineering, agriculture, nursing, pharmacy, architecture, business, journalism, and graduate studies.
