Team Pre-Season Stats: This was the 4th Super Bowl the favored New England Patriots had competed in since 2001. They were undefeated in the regular season, the first in Superbowl History. Quarterback Tom Brady won his first NFL MVP and had a record 50 touchdowns. The acquisition of receiver Randy Moss, who caught 98 receptions for 1,493 and also had an NFL reord of 23 touchdowns.

On the other hand, the New York Giants had not won a playoff in 7 years. With Eli Manning as quarterback, younger brother of Peyton Manning-Super Bowl XLI MVP, leading them to 3 playoff wins on the road which gave them an NFL record 10 consecutive wins on the road. Eli Manning had 23 touchdowns, 3,336 yards and 20 interceptions. Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer were his leading receivers.

 

Game Highlights: The Patriots just were not on their game giving up 5 sacs and 1 fumble and the Giants had only 5 first downs in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. By the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 7 to 3 with the Patriots in the lead. Then Eli Manning took charge in the 4th quarter, throwing 2 touchdown passes with being the winning play for 17-yard touchdown to Plaxico Burress with 39 seconds remaining.

The New York Giants had another Super Bowl first, the longest opening drive in Super Bowl History. Turning into 16-play, 77-yard run and featured four third-down conversions.

 

Game MVP: Eli Manning, quarterback for the New York Giants was named the MVP completing 19 of 34 passes for 255 yards.

 

Half Time Show: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed for the half time show. Performing songs American Girl, I Won't Back Down, Free Fallin and Runnin Down a Dream. This appearance was the kick-off for their world tour in 2008.

 

Commercials: Everyone waits to see the superbowl commercials. This year the 30 seconds commercial spot went for $2.7 million. Budweiser, with tribute to Rocky, had a Clydesdale inspired by his trainer, a dalmation, catch the wagon as it pulls away. FedEx also had an outstanding commercial using carrier pigeons as the them. Others included Audi, GM, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Doritos and Pepsi.
