About Tampa, FL: Residents of Tampa, Florida were excited to host Super Bowl 35 which featured a match up between the defensive power Baltimore Ravens and the legendary New York Giants. The game would be held at the Raymond James Stadium and everyone worked long hours preparing for the event. Super Bowl XXXV was more than just a sporting event, it was the ultimate event featuring fans from around the world and numerous celebrities.

Ticket Sales / Attendance: There were 71921 people in attendance at the 35the Super Bowl game and it is estimated that 84.3 million more fans watched from home while tuning into CBS who were covering the big game this year and had ratings of 40.4.

Team Pre-Season Stats: For the past few years the New York Giants had relied solely on their defence, but this year had something to look forward to on offence with running backs Tiki Barber and Ron Dayne. The additions of Lomas Brown and Glenn Parker to the offensive line would provide needed protection to Kerry Collins at quarterback.

The Ravens came into the season with an outstanding defence as usual lead by the best linebacker in the league Ray Lewis. However, this year they have made some key additions on offence much like the Giants including Jamal Lewis, Travis Taylor, and veteran tight end Shannon Sharpe. With these additions they were hoping to make it deep into the playoffs.

Team Roster / Salaries: Baltimore's total payroll starting the season was $54,811,100 with Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis as the highest paid players on the team. They were able to sign key players Jamal Lewis and Shannon Sharpe to lower salaries to stay under the salary cap. The Giants had a slightly lower total payroll at $51,348,900 with defensive superstars Michael Strahan and Jason Sehorn making over $5 million per year.

Game Highlights: The Ravens opened the scoring in the first quarterof the thrity-fifth Superbowl when Trent Dilfer completed a 38 yard pass to wide receiver Brandon Stokley. The Giants thought they had evened the score after Jessie Armstead intercepted a pass and returned the ball 43 yards for a touchdown, but the play was called back due to a penalty on New York. After marching further down field Matt Stove kicked a 47 yard field goal to give Baltimore a 10-0 lead.

The Ravens defence continued to step up as Chris McAlister and Duane Starks both intercepted passes from Kerry Collins. Stark's interception was returned for a touchdown to give the Ravens a 17-0 lead. The Giants then cut the lead to 10 points as Ron Dixon returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Jermaine Lewis then responded back for Baltimore to give them a 24-7 lead. The 3 touchdowns were scored in a Super Bowl record 36 seconds. Jamal Lewis added another touchdown and Matt Stover another field goal to give the Ravens a 34-7 victory.

Game MVP: The MVP of the 35th Super Bowl was Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis. As the defence was the star of this game for the Ravens, so was their leader Lewis. He did not have record numbers in the game (3 tackles, 2 assists, 4 passes defended), but was the leader and motivator of this defensive unit, which dominated this game. Holding New York to 7 points and only one 1st down on their final four possessions was an MVP performance.

Half Time Show: The halftime show of Superbowl 35 was a star studded event. Presented by MTV it featured rock legends Aerosmith, boy band NSync, Britney Spears, Mary J Blige and rap star Nelly.

Commercials: There were several funny ads during this year's game. One of the best was by Budweiser and it was about 2 castaways on a desert island, a man and a woman. A plane flies overhead and the woman tries to get the attention of the plane while the man builds a signal on the beach. The plane flies away and we see an overhead view that the man had actually spelled out the words "Go Away" and drinks a Budweiser with the woman.
