About Miami, Florida: Residents of Miami were looking forward to hosting Super Bowl 29 in Joe Robbie Stadium and were busy making final preparations. After watching their Dolphins lose to the Chargers fans in the area were excited to watching some championship football in the city. In Super Bowl XXIX they were going watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the San Diego Chargers.

 

Ticket Sales / Attendance: There were 74107 people in attendance at Joe Robbie Stadium for the 29th Super Bowl game and it is estimated that another 83.4 million more football fans watched from home or other party locations around the world while tuning into ABC.

 

Team Pre-Season Stats: After losing to the Dallas Cowboys in the previous years NFC Championship, the San Francisco 49ers were looking to get back to their first Super Bowl since 1990. Steve Young was looking to win his first title since taking over the reigns from Joe Montana and with help from teammates Ricky Watters and Jerry Rice this could be the year.

After missing the playoffs the previous season the Chargers were hoping now had a team to make a run at the postseason. With QB Stan Humphries and RB Natrone Means leading the offence the chargers could make a run if the rest of the team brought their game to the next level.

 

Team Roster / Salaries: The 49ers roster for Super Bowl twenty-nine was composed of some key players and salaries including OL Harris Barton ($1.98 million), TE Brent Jones ($1 million), WR Jerry Rice ($2.3 million), CB Deion Sanders ($1.1 million), and QB Steve Young ($4 million).

Some of the important players on the Chargers roster included Courtney Hall ($1.8 million), RB Ronnie Harmon ($1.5 million), QB Stan Humphries ($3.6 million), and DE Leslie O'Neal ($2.3 million.)

 

Game Highlights: It didn't take the 49ers long to open the scoring in the 29th Super Bowl when Steve Young completed a 44 yard pass to Jerry Rice only 1:24 into the first quarter. They took a 14-0 lead on their next play when Young connected on a 51 yard pass to Ricky Watters with 10:05 still to play in the first quarter. San Diego then put together an impressive drive of their own marching 78 yards down field and completed by a 1 yard touch down run by Natrone Means. Steve Young then connected for 2 more touchdown passes to go into halftime with a 28-10 lead.

San Diego added two touchdowns in the 2nd half including a 98 yard kick return and 2 successful 2-pt conversions, but it wasn't enough to beat the 49ers. Steve Young connected for another 2 Td passes to Jerry Rice to dominate the Chargers on their way to a 49-26 victory.

 

Game MVP: With one of the most amazing performances of all time 49ers QB Steve young was named the MVP of the 29th Superbowl. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 325 yards and a record 6 touchdown passes. With this performance he helped San Francisco win a record 5 Super Bowls and stepped out of the shadow of former star QB Joe Montana.

 

Half Time Show: Disney presented the halftime show with a theme of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Forbidden eye. It feature performers Patti LaBelle, Tony Bennett, Arturo Sandoval, and Miami Sound Machine.

 

Commercials: A 30 second commercial during the 29th Super Bowl game cost a little over $1.0 million and continued the increased price trend of commercials during the Super Bowl. This year saw the introduction of one of the most famous ads of all time by Budweiser. The ad included the Budweiser frogs as each of them said a syllable of the word Bud-wei-ser in sequence.
