About New Orleans, Louisiana: Citizens of the city of New Orleans were looking forward to another celebration in the home of Mardi Gras and that would be the biggest party of them all Super Bowl 20. Thousands of football fans from around the world would travel to their city to watch the 20th anniversary of the game as the Chicago Bears took on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
Ticket Sales / Attendance: There were 73818 people in attendance at the game in and it is estimated that another 92.5 million more excited football fans tuned in from their homes or other parties around the world while tuning into NBC. The ratings the game for the game on this network were 48.3.
Team Pre-Season Stats: Chicago Bears legend on the field Mike Ditka was hoping that this would be the season that he led the Bears to a Super Bowl title as head coach. With rock star quarterback Jim McMahon leading the offence and legendary running back Walter Payton carrying to ball once again the Bears had a legitimate shot to contend. The defence would not be a question as Ditka's D was led by LB Mike Singletary and many others. The New England Patriots were looking forward to the 1985-86 NFL season after missing the playoffs the previous 2 seasons. It would be head coach Raymond Berry's first full season after taking over part way through last season. Quarterback Tony Eason would lead the offence and the defence would be led by DB Raymond Clayborn.

The notable players for the Patriots included QB Tony Eason, RB Craig James, WR Irving Fryar, DB Fred Marion, LB Steve Nelson, LB Andre Tippett, and OL John Hannah.
Game Highlights: The Bears came into the game looking for their first Super Bowl victory since 1963 and with only 1 regular season loss and the number 1 ranked defence they were favoured to win. However, New England took the fastest lead in Super Bowl history on a 36 yard field goal from Tony Franklin only 1:19 into the first quarter. This would be the only time the momentum was in the Patriots favour. Chicago answered with 23 points in the first half to take a 23-3 lead entering halftime. This lead included Kevin Butler kicking 3 field goals and touchdowns by Jim McMahon and Matt Suhey. The 2nd half was no different as the Bears added another 23 points to only 7 by New England. The 46 points was a record and QB Jim McMahon added his second rushing touchdown of the game. However, it was the defence that was the real star as they had 7 sacks and limited the Patriots to 7 yards rushing as the Bears captured the title for the first time in over 20 years.
Game MVP: The MVP of the 20th Super Bowl was Chicago Defensive End Richard Dent. This was only the fifth time in Superbowl history that a member of the defence was named MVP of the game. Dent contributed with 1.5 sacks and forced 2 fumbles as the Bears defence helped lead them to the championship.
Half Time Show: The halftime show was presented by Up With People and was themed "Beat of the Future". The performers were actually also Up With People which was a group of volunteer student performers presenting upbeat songs using vocal soloists, a choir, electric guitars, and other instruments. The music was accompanied by choreographed dance.
Commercials: The average cost for a 30 second commercial during the 20th Superbowl was $550000. One of the featured ads during this game included Michelin and its Driving in the Rain ad where it featured two babies in rain suits sitting in a Michelin tire. This was supposed to symbolize that riding on these tires could protect your family especially during wet weather.
