About Miami, Florida: The home of the NFL Miami Dolphins and college Miami Hurricanes, the Orange Bowl would play host to two different teams this year in Super Bowl 13. Thousands of visitors from around the world would travel to Miami, Florida to enjoy the great weather and watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII.

 

Ticket Sales / Attendance: There were 79484 people in attendance at the game in and it is estimated that another 74.7 million more excited football fans tuned in from their homes or other football parties around the world while tuning into NBC. The ratings the game for the game on this network were 47.1.

 

Team Pre-Season Stats: The Pittsburgh Steelers and head coach Chuck Noll were hoping that this season they would have more playoff success after failing to get back to the Super Bowl the past two seasons. Quarterback Terry Bradshaw and RB Franco Harris would be back to lead the offence and this time they were looking to avenge recent playoffs losses.

The Dallas Cowboys would once again have head coach Tom Landry leading the team and he would count on 4 time Pro Bowl quarterback Roger Staubach to lead the offence. Staubach would not be on his own though as he would have help from RB Tony Dorsett to help the Cowboys challenge the top teams this season.

 

Team Roster: Key players on the Steelers roster included QB Terry Bradshaw, RB Franco Harris, WR John Stallworth, DL Joe Greene, LB Jack Ham, WR Lynn Swann, and DB Donnie Shell.

The notable players for the Cowboys included QB Roger Staubach, RB Tony Dorsett, TE Billy Joe Dupree, DB Cliff Harris, WR Tony Hill, DL Harvey Martin, DL Randy White and DL Ed Jones.

 

Game Highlights: Both Dallas and Pittsburgh were expecting an evenly matched game and they did not disappoint football fans. The score was even during the first quarter as QB Bradshaw and QB Staubach both threw for touchdown passes. Dallas took the lead for a short while after a Mike Hegman 37 yard touchdown run off of a Pittsburgh fumble. This lead was short lived though as Bradshaw responded with 2 touchdown passes to Stallworth and Bleier to take a 21-14 lead going into the half.

In the 2nd half the Steelers took a 35-17 lead as Harris and Swann added touchdowns in the 4th quarter. The Cowboys did not give up though and QB Roger Staubach threw for 2 touchdown passes late in the quarter. However, they ran out of time as Pittsburgh recovered their onside kick attempt to seal their record 3rd Super Bowl Championship.

 

Game MVP: The MVP of the 13th Super Bowl was Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw went 17 for 30 throwing for 318 yards and a record 4 touchdown passes. His 18 yard touchdown pass to Lynn Swann in the 4th quarter helped seal a Pittsburgh victory. He helped lead his team to a record 3rd Superbowl title.

 

Half Time Show: The halftime show was presented by Bob Jani and the theme was "Super Bowl XIII Carnival Salute to Caribbean". It featured performer Ken Hamilton along with various Caribbean Bands.

 

Commercials: The average cost for a 30 second commercial during the 13th Superbowl was $185000. Dodge had a series of commercials featuring their vehicles calling them rugged, gutsy, and value you can measure.
