Super Bowl Recipes: Let's dig in!

Late in January of every year, the thoughts of millions turn to the Superbowl, and just what they'll do on Super Sunday. For those planning to stay home to watch the big championship bowl, Superbowl recipes are very much on their minds.

Sure, you can empty some chips into a bowl and go from there, but really super recipes that go above and beyond require some thought and preparation. If you're going to have a tailgate party before the game, or chow down during the Super Bowl, you obviously need some nice Super Bowl recipes to help make the experience a memorable one.

Recipes for that special Superbowl

First, decide how you want to feed your Superbowl crowd. Do you want to grill out or eat in? Do you want casual or fancy? Do you want finger food or a whole meal? Many things to decide!

Hotdogs and hamburgers are traditional for a tailgate party, lubricated with beer of course, but you can throw in a few wild cards by grilling bratwursts or trying a new recipe for sauce or potato salad.

For an indoor party, you can pick a theme and go from there. If the Superbowl's in the South, try offering the partygoers southern food, for example. Who can resist a great piece of fried chicken or a Moon Pie washed down with RC Cola? Great recipe sources include magazines like Gourmet and Bon Appetit, which publish Superbowl recipes every year, and various outlets on the Internet. Even Emeril has gotten into the act.

Mmmm...Superbowl goodies

Ah, the Superbowl experience.

Here's an opportunity to "kick it up a notch" by going beyond chips-in-a-bowl and onion dips. Try new appetizers, snacks, and a variety of other courses, including desserts; who'll expect that?

Make that Superbowl experience super from a culinary point of view, and who knows -- they may just remember the Superbowl more for your super food than for the game.
