Everyone Looks Forward to the Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Super Bowl halftime show takes place after the second quarter. This gives both teams a chance to regroup and discuss the strategies and plays they need for the rest of the game. It also gives the fans a break from excitement and a chance to sit back, relax and take in some fantastic entertainment.

To be selected as the entertainment for the Superbowl halftime is a big coup for anyone because it provides exposure to millions of people across North America and the world.

Some of the halftime shows of the past

The past five Super Bowl games have featured impressive halftime shows that wowed the crowds.

  • 2005 - Paul McCartney
  • 2004 - Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake
  • 2003 - Shania Twain, No Doubt and a surprise visit from Sting
  • 2002 - Rock Group U 2 and a tribute to 9/11
  • 2001 - A star-studded line up with AeroSmith, Nsync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige and rapper Nelly

One of the most controversial halftime shows at the Super Bowl occurred in 2004, when the star's top came down and bared her breast to the crowd. Although many people dismissed it as accidental, there was a lot of controversy because many people felt it was deliberate. This ruined what the organizers wanted to be family entertainment, which is what halftime shows are designed to be. Since young and old gather together to watch the Superbowl, it needs to be acceptable to all viewers.

Just As Big As The Game

In the beginning days of the Superbowl, the halftime show was a very small affair, just to keep the fans occupied. Now it is a big event - almost as big as the game itself. Those who do not follow football teams during the season, watch the halftime show.
