Super Bowl 40: The 40th Game Since 1967

Super Bowl 40 promises to be the culmination of a fantastic season, and will celebrate America's most popular sporting event and the match-up of two of the NFL's great teams. On February 5, 2006, Detroit, Michigan will play host to the big game at Ford Field, the $500 million dollar stadium of their home team, the Lions.

Although the 2005-2006 season has only just begun, avid football fans are already making their Superbowl 40 predictions. Fingers are pointing towards last year's winners; the New England Patriot's to take another championship, but a few others favorites are up for contention such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Indiana Colts, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Who will play the Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Due to the chaos that surrounded the MTV produced 2004 half time show, the NFL is being reasonably cautious about who will get top billing this year. Rumors are swirling surrounding who are some of the most popular picks:

  • The Rolling Stones have been approached to perform at the show, but as of yet, no solid decision has been made.
  • A Motown themed tribute with artists like Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson has also been suggested as a way of showing people where Detroit comes from musically.
  • Rap artist Eminem has also been suggested since he hails from the city and would keep the fans on their toes.

For those of you who want to be kept in the know about all the upcoming information, ticket sales, and accommodations for the event, you can find all of your information readily on the internet and on the official Superbowl XL website. Although tickets for Super Bowl 40 are not yet for sale, they are printed in the fall and will be distributed in January of 2006. Prices per ticket range from $2500 to $7500 and more than likely, regardless of the price, will completely sell out.
